It's a.....

Yesterday we had our (most likely) last ultrasound. A very nice nurse/widwife spent about 15 minutes scanning my belly and my baby all the way through. She checked and measured the size of the head, the size of the belly, and the length of the thighbone. She checked all the chambers of the heart, checked for two kidneys, and checked the stomach and the bladder. We saw little hands with fingers and little feet with toes.

Since she evaluated that there was "no suspicison of anything wrong" we most likely will not being seeing our little dude again untill arrival at some point in August/September.

Of course, one of the main reasons for suspense yesterday was our hope to find out the sex of our baby. When we asked the nurse, she very willingly wanted to check for us, but little dude was laying so it was difficult. Little dude also had the umbilical cord betweens its legs.... We were instantly a little dissapointed, because we had really been looking forward to finding out!

....But she jiggled me a little and tried to scan from the other side, and suddenly she exclaimed "Oh, no, there it is. I think this looks like a little boy!" And from then on, it was PRETTY obvious that it was, indeed, a little DUDE hiding in my belly. We could all see it, and he was proudly showing of all of his... well, equipment.

She was so sure that she said "Well, either it's that, or it's an extra leg..."

So yesterday and today we (or at least, I) have been all high and excited. We would have been excited either way, boy or girl. But it just makes everything seem so much more real. Now we can start picking out names for real (I already have a favorite...) and start preparing for a boy in a very gendered world.

We went out to dinner to celebrate the exciting day had had delicious steaks. We very rarely eat out so this was a very special treat.

Aftre the ultrasound we had a short consult with a doctor, who also evaluated that there was nothign wrong, no needs for any concern, etc. We looked at some of the measurements of our little guy, and have come to the conclusion that he will look a whole lot like his Daddy. His head was slightly larger than average, his belly slightly smaller than average, his weight slightly under average, but his legs were slightly longer than average.... So I am thinking a skinny, long-legged/tall little boy? Hopefully he will be blonde with curly hair and big ole blue eyes..... ;P
