A new love...

The delicate and beautiful design of Royal Copenhagens 'Musselmalet' caught my eye last year, and I still can't quite let it go.

It is ridiculously overpriced and impractical, since it is handpainted and doesn't go in the dishwasher. It also fits horribly with our 'red' kitchen theme, and my other love (red Le Creuset).

I own one serving dish (a 'pasta plate') from RC, although I very rarely use it for fear of it breaking. It was a gift, of course, and it may be one of the most cherished items in my kitchen. There is just something about the luxury and quality that makes my heart go all aflutter.

Mortens Aften

We never celebrated 'Mortens Aften' growing up, but for some reason we decided to do so this year. So for my first Mortens Aften ever we invited to friends over to dinner.

I am lucky enough to have a boy who actually likes to cook and experiment in the kitchen some times, so him and his buddy C started in the kitchen at about 4 PM to clean and prepare the duck. Even though they were supposed to cooking, I am mildly obsessive and also like to cook, so I couldn't help myself from hanging around the kitchen 'helping' them out. Either way, Little Dude was still napping, which allowed me to spend some quality time hanging out with the boys. I took over the gravy making because that way I can get it exactly the way I like it! ;)

We ended up with a full christmas dinner of duck stuffed with apples and prunes, delicious gravy, browned sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, red cabbage, and waldorf salad. We are definately doing this again next year!

I also had a glass of white wine and half of a christmas beer (blÄlys) - and ended up with a nice hangover sunday morning???!?

These are a few of my favorite things...

Apartment - Picture spamming
It's all in the details

My dishwasher!, may be the best part of the kitchen, plus it is super cute
(it's the little things..)

View out of my kitchen window into the backyard

Every home should have a coffee corner.

Moving on into the living room

This is my cactus, Svenning.

This is my newest plant, his name is Jorgen.
There are no cats in this home to kill these plants, so I guess it's all on me...
(these plants should be nearly impossible to kill)

My pink/red China dolls!
Proudly on display in the windows

Making a house a home...

....is a work in progress.

These are just a few select pictures from the new crib. Things have been happening ever since I took these pictures about 10 days ago, but I wanted to give an overview of the place - the focus is on my favorite room, see if you can guess which one it is...

View from the front door to our shoes and jackets.
I'd like to point out that boy has more shoes than me on display.

View from the kitchen into the Dining room.
We now have a new table and chairs and it looks slightly different.

Corner of kitchen, we have a microwave!
We still need to hang the clock on the wall.

Stove and oven and cooking accessories.

I can't wait until I'm allowed into this cabinet again!

Welcome to a touch of Africa in our living room!

Boy souvenirs from Ghana. I am in love with the animals.

more souvenirs from Ghana.
I am even more in love with the 'African mother and child'
And a little bedroom teaser....

Overall, we have all the major things in place, but still need the finishing touches. We are finding pictures of 'us', friends, and family to hang on the wall, and looking for a nice collage-type frame for them. We have a few pictures/paintings for the bedroom, but still need to finalize the interior (we still need to fit a baby bed in there..).

And we are still deciding on something for the dining room wall. We are thinking possibly a NYC skyline or city picture, but if we go that direction I want to find the exact right picture. I'm still not sure if it's too overdone and cliche? My other thoughts included a GIANT clock on the wall. Or something REALLY colorful. hmm

Tuesday Morning

As usual, I have quite a day ahead of me...

It started out with fresh coffee and chocolate milk.... Breakfast of champions (accompanied by toast and jam)

Then, I prepared another round of dough for the fridge...

... I'm already looking forward to fresh bread tomorrow morning. (This time I only made a half-portion of this recipe.)

Now, getting ready to go grocery shopping as well as take care of some vacation money/tax issues. Also, I need to vacuum after a small spice cabinet accident last night.....

still alive

We are still alive, but we moved last week and just got internet back on monday! (except for the cell phone, of course) So it has been difficult to make a good post (this isn't it either).

However, all is well and we haven't killed each other yet, so I guess living together is going great so far! We are still getting used to each other rhythms, eating habits, good habits, bad habits, etc. I mean, we knew alot of them beforehand, but this is just intensified.

We also found another apartment, and we will be moving again in April. Very exciting! It is almost twice the size of this tiny apartment (which is probably less than 500 sqft), has an extra room, a dishwasher!, and is located nice and central in town. I am super duper excited about finally getting more settled. This apartment feels like home, but we both know it is temporary so it'll be good to have a more permanent home in a few months. As much as I hate packing and moving, at least I'm not allowed to lift anything heavy ;)
