Flashback Thursday - Vacation Edition

One of my only regrets from the college days (you know, if I believed in regrets...) would be never going on "Spring Break woohoo." I did, however, go on Spring Break. With addyday #2, Erin, Cari, and some others. And it was fun, too. I wouldn't have done without it. It just wasn't "wooohoo."

Todays flashback goes back to March of junior year, to the Florida Keys, to scuba diving...

Let's go back, shall we? Back to the year 2008:

A few pictures from the resort

A few of our group getting ready for dinner time

Daytrip to Key West and the Southernmost Point of the US.

Key West - watching the Cruise ship take off,

Crazy weather, crazy pretty water.
It's not even that I'm really the "Spring break woohoo" type - it's just that now it's too late to go on a vacation based only on drinking and partying. (Although - I really don't think I'm missing all that much).

Why you should never, ever get pregnant - or, Things I'm going to appreciate SO much more come September.

Top Ten things I would do right now if I wasn't trying to grow a tiny human inside of me.
  1. Drink an ice cold beer
  2. Go shopping for summer dresses
  3. Go for a run in our new neighborhood down by the water
  4. Drink a giant Margarita
  5. Dye my hair and get rid of the horrible roots
  6. Eat Sushi!! Mhhhmmm Unagi.... Salmon Skin Roll...
  7. Make vacation plans to go to Thailand (to visit Lene) and to join the family in Aruba in July.
  8. Stay out and go dancing all night and go to Fødelsdagen at HCØ
  9. Read a book not called "What to expect when you're expecting" (or something with a similar title)
  10. Have a blog that wasn't centered around pregnancy and babies.
  11. Probably not have any inspiration to write anything on a blog.

Flashback Thursday

There's this cool thing on Blogger called "planned posts" - which essentially means that you can write a post and then choose when you want it to be published. So you're reading this thursday, when I actually prepared it on tuesday. Cool, right?

Anyway, we're probably busy moving all of our junk, but I wanted to reminisce a bit with you all. Today, I'm looking back almost exactly 2 years and showing you a few select pictures from what I fondly like to think of as "Graduation Road Trip 2009"

Driving through marshes in North Carolina - The Crystal Coast

Boone Hall Plantation near Charleston SC.
If you feel like you've seen it before, it was used (among others)
for filming of the series "North and South" and for the film "The Notebook"

Beautiful Charleston SC.
I would go back in a heartbeat, we didn't spend nearly enough time here.

Just as beautiful and interesting: Savannah, Georgia.

Flashback Thursday - April 2006

Let's go back - back to the year 2006.

Remember when...
.... We went to Tigerfest at Towson?

Back when Tigerfest was free for all students (how did us non TU kids get in..?)... We sneaked liquids onto the field in waterbottles... hidden down the shirts of certain people... Someone fell asleep on the field during the main act....We guzzled down cookies and french fries and chicken fingers for dinner from the diner.... hangover food of champions...

Featuring Yellowcard and Mae
We pregamed at the home of Erin and Stacy

This picture used to be upside down....
It's so easy a caveman could do it...
Feel the love?
And then suddenly.....

Megan was preggo!!! We are still (impatiently) awaiting the arrival of this little miracle child.

Flashback Thursday - remember when...?

Remember that time at Towson when we went to go climb on the tiger, but much to our dismay we found out it was GONE?
Let's go back - back to the year 2006

First we went to campus to find the Tiger.

But where did it go?
Why is the Tiger gone?

Sad faces all around

No one understands the sudden dissapearance of the Tiger.

So everybody starts looking for the Tiger.

Is it in the bushes back here?

Is it out there in the horizon?

Hmmm....

Hmmmmm..... where can we find a dangerous Tiger kitty?

A replacement Tiger has been found.

People seem to be pretty excited about it.

Hey, remember back in college when we used to be fun and spontaneous?

Dear Readers

A few weeks ago my friend Erin wrote a blog post about how life can change in an instant. She mentions two friends, and I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag, to all of you anxiously waiting readers ;) One of those friends is me, and I have some pretty good life changing things happening. If you read this blog, you probably already know what I'm about to write about, so it won't come as a very big surprise to any of you.

Today we are starting to let the world know about a tiny little change in our lives that will happen in 2011. In order to make a qualified guess, you should continue to the rest of the post

Short Recap

I was on such a roll with blogging, then life came in the way (again). Anyway, quick recap:

Moved back to Odense with a carful of stuff, once again amazed at how much stuff I accumulated during just 4 months in Sonderborg.

Spent a few days unpacking, doing laundry, and repacking, including some christmas parties and christmas visits with various new family members.

Travelled across the pond with the boy to visit my family. We joined my parents, my sister, and my grandparents (who had travelled over a week before us) for a few weeks of busy christmas cheer. We got lots of good christmas presents - including one that was quite unexpected.

The grandparents lefts and the boy and I spent a few days in New York, sightseeing and wandering about the city. There is just something special about NYC, the atmosphere and the charm there is unlike anything else in the world.

The boy left to go back to Denmark. Then I had another 3 weeks before I had to return, and they went by suprisingly fast. There were a few parties, two trips to Prince Frederick, writing a paper, hanging out with my parents and my sister, some shopping, and lots of other little things.

So now I am back in Odense and getting excited about starting my last semester of classes (ever? we will see...). The boy left yesterday, the day after I came back, to go skiing for a week. Poor planning on our part, but I am confident that it will be okay because pretty soon we will be spending so much time together that he will surely get very sick of me! ...... in just a few weeks we are moving in together in a little tiny apartment!

It is very small and is inly a temporary solution, for various reasons, but I am excited none the less to see how we work out playing house.

Going Old School - France 2007

Remember when...

We went to France?

Really though, the title should be "Remember when we went to Paris and Nice and a few other small places in France?" It's not like we actually experienced all of France, but we did get about 14 days of touristy France.
At the end of May 2007, Erin and I travelled to Paris, France. We spent most of the first week in Paris (sunday afternoon through friday evening).

On the way down the aisle…

..... (not me!)

My best friend is getting MARRIED!
(this post is a little bit late, but I have a lot of catching up to do)

The “surprise” of the summer was the engagement that happened to take place on my very own birthday! I guess I will always be able to remember that specific anniversary in their life, and hopefully Erin will as well! When I say “surprise” I mean that it probably didn’t come as that big of a surprise to anyone, since we knew it would happen *eventually.*

They are meant to be and seem to balance and complement each other nicely. As someone who has known Erin for 18 years, I can definitely say that I approve of Matt and that I’m not sure I’ve seen Erin happier. And this is coming from someone who is kind of like a “big” (or “little”) sister, and who never thought she would approve of anyone Erin brought home.

Anyway, I wanted to take this little moment to wish the couple congratulations, best wishes, good luck, etc.etc.

The wedding will take place September 3rd, 2011, in Southern Maryland and I get to be in the wedding party as one of 4 bridesmaids. As something extra special, my dad will be officiating the ceremony. I can’t wait to be a part of their special day and all the planning and festivities that surround the occasion.

I just hope Erin won’t make me wear a super ugly dress!!!

on life-changing changes in life

Even though I am pretty happy with my life in general (ok, more than pretty happy) there are moments when I feel like my life is still kind of standing still. Most people probably have periods of their life where they feel bored, or feel like they are in a 'waiting-for-something-to-happen-phase." That's exactly where I feel I am. Even though I will be the first to admit how much I love the student lifestyle, I sometimes feel bored... I feel like I should be further in my life. Have a job, travel exciting places, change the world, become an adult.

This weekend, my BFFFF Erin (and her wonderful boyfriend) became homeowners. They now both have full-time big-kid jobs, they got a dog together, and own a home. Oh, and she bought a brand new car. She is officially an adult.

Also this weekend, my (Biffer) Jess told me about the list she just recieved with the locations where she might be stationed very soon. Within the next few months, she will graduate from Intel school and officially be stationed as part of US Air Force. (She falls within the category of 'changing the world'). I hope she already knows how proud I am of her.

So, my friends are moving on with their lives and becoming adults. It's natural at our age (not teenagers yet young enough to still need to get partying out of our system) for people to be scattering all over the place, trying new things, all that jazz. I'm guilty of it too for leaving 'home' to go to grad school. But however good change may be, it is almost never fun nor easy while it is happening.

There's no intelligent conclusion to this post, because I think most people know what I'm talking about. It is difficult to put into words how I can simultaneously be happy with my own life, yet jealous of others lives. Change is natural, people come into your life to affect it in different ways, people change, and thankfully, a few precious things never change.

In other news:
If you don't already, you should check out my friend Cari's blog on social responsibility, because it is a really interesting read.

If you know me, you know that I love the Olympics. Mainly my love is focused on the summer Olympics, but the winter olympics can me a little bit excited as well. So anyway, long story short: Denmark hardly ever has any medal chances at the winter Olympics, EXCEPT in curling. The other day I was watching the men's team play a game against Norway, and the only thing I could focus on were the ridiculous pants the Norwegians were wearing. Seriously? My favorite part is how the rest of the world took notice too.

Speaking of the olympics, how awesomely badass is Shaun White and his Double McTwist? Now, I'm a snowboarder, just not one of the very adventurous ones. It's an accomplishment for me to not fall when I do the little jumps on the side of the slopes. Or, I'll stop kidding myself, it's a pretty big accomplishment to NOT fall when getting of the lift. Shaun White is just Awesome yo.

By the way, I do realize how bipolar this post is.

On being a student

Like Erin, I fail at blogging. I’m sorry. Despite my whining about not having a life, I actually do some stuff some times.
Part of my life, a rather large part actually, is my current job as a student. Yes, I just called it my job, because that’s what it is. I am in the fortunate position of being paid to go to school, which is both awesome and frightening. It is awesome because it means that not only do I go to school for free, I also get a certain amount of money each month for living expenses. It is frightening because it brings a certain amount of responsibility to pass my classes, show up to lecture, and work hard on projects and assignments. It is also frightening because even though I get ‘free money’ every month, it is not nearly enough to live the kind of life I would like to live. It covers rent, food, my books, and a little bit of fun. So far, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to get by without a part time job, but it is also hard to see how I would find time to add a serious time commitment like a ‘real’ job. It is also really hard to save any money or put anything aside for fun/big stuff, such as travelling. I guess once again I can only conclude that this is why I’m going to school: I’m hoping that down the road I will be able to lead a more comfortable lifestyle.

Don’t take this as whining though. I am very well aware of how lucky I am and I am very thankful to have the opportunity to continue being a student. Despite the whole ‘not-having-money-eating-spaghetti-with-ketchup-by-the-end-of-the-month’ thing, being a student is really awesome. It is a lifestyle that is all its own and we can make it into whatever we want. I can party on the weekends and spend all day Sunday watching reruns of my favorite shows. Sometimes, I get to read about organizational theory into the middle of the night because I chose to hang out with friends the night before. I can go to Ikea during the day on a Wednesday because I don’t have classes, and I have every single Friday off to do with as I please. I can live for a very small amount of money in student housing, and enjoy the pleasures of sharing a kitchen with 14 other students. Life is good.

Can I just be a college kid forever? (Is this real life? Is this gonna last forever??)

maybe this time it'll stick

Heyyy yalll

I haven’t had a proper blog in a really long time. Do you guys remember the days when everyone had a Xanga? Yea, me too. I’ve tried to start up blogs since then but it never seemed to stick. Anyway, Erin inspired me to start this one up again. I’ve had it for a while and clearly don’t ever actually update it.

I figured this could be a good way to let people know of my adventures as I travel to Denmark and start school again. I can’t imagine that my posts will be themed or particularly intelligent or interesting. It’ll just be me. Pure me (and I know you can’t get enough of me =)).

So anyway! I leave on Sunday, which is only 5 days away. By the time I wake up tomorrow, it’s only 4 days away. I have yet to start packing. I have laundry to do. A lot of stuff from the brothel is still standing in the garage that needs to be sorted. My room needs to be cleaned. I have several dates and appointments set and errands to run. My birthday dinner is tomorrow night and my going away party is Friday night. I have a lot to do. Yet, I just started a blog. Go figure. This week is kind of like Finals week: no sleep, lots of caffeine, too much stuff to do.

On the note: I’m going to go do something productive. Although most likely it just means I’ll be going to bed and watch some late night television. Man, I’m going to miss the quality late night television from here. And Freddy Fries. We should go to Freddies one day!
